The Parkstone Wastewater Treatment Plant is situated on a 15-acre site within the Parkstone Development and accommodates the wastewater treatment and disposal facility and land application system (LAS). At full build-out, the initial phase of the development will generate an average 100,000 gallons per day (gpd) wastewater flow requiring treatment and disposal. Much undeveloped land surrounds the 290-acre development tract which, in time, will likely be developed.

In anticipation of additional properties being made part of Parkstone, the proposed wastewater treatment plant has been designed for future expansion. The wastewater treatment and disposal system treats wastewater to an acceptable level for subsurface drip disposal including a significant reduction in total nitrogen in the wastewater. A drip irrigation system installed in the 12-acre portion of the treatment plant site can be used for disposal of 100% of the treated effluent at full capacity on a year-round basis. A wet-weather emergency storage pond in the vicinity of the treatment structures will provide emergency storage for fully-treated effluent during extremely wet conditions.

The first construction phase (Phase I) of the treatment plant provides 125,000 gallons per day of biological treatment by a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and 100,000 gallons per day of drip irrigation disposal. In Phase I, the SBR basin concrete tankage will allow storage be doubled to 250,000 gpd by adding treatment equipment. The drip disposal system will have a first phase capacity of 100,000 gpd with features to add 25,000 gpd of additional drip fields. The ultimate expansion (Phase III) to 250,000 gallons per day will require the construction of an off-site storage pond, a drip building and a drip irrigation field capable of handling 125,000 gallons per day.

Forsyth County purchased the facility in 2007. The Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) recognized the facility as its “Plant of the Year” in 2012 in the less than 1.0 MGD category.

This pump station will ultimately serve the drainage basin and be required to pump 2 MGD (1,380 gpm) per Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department. Provisions were made in the current pump station design to allow for upsizing the pump station to meet the future needs with minimal costs.

The proposed force main from the Union Station Pump Station ties onto an existing 10″ force main that runs along Shiloh Road. The force main is 10″ DIP and runs approximately 1,050 feet to the tie-on point at Shiloh Road. The existing 10″ force main is used by the Shiloh Road Pump Station and pumps directly to the Fowler Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. One design parameter for the Union Station Pump Station was that the Shiloh Road Pump Station must be able to pump at least 500 gpm when both pumps operate concurrently.

The Heron Bay Pump Stations serve the Heron Bay Golf Course Community in Henry County, Georgia. Each of the three pump stations include self-priming Gorman-RuppT-Series pumps that are installed above ground to facilitate serviceability and maintenance.

Pump Station “A” collects wastewater from the entire Heron Bay Development and pumps the wastewater approximately two miles along Frog Road to a pump station that pumps wastewater to Henry County’s Indian Creek Water Reclamation Facility. Pump Station “A” is a 100 HP station (50 HP per pump) that includes a duplex, piggyback pumping system (4 pumps total). The Gorman-Rupp T8A-B pumps operate at 1,300 gpm @ 152-feet (76-feet per stage). The pump station was constructed by Willow Construction in 2002. This shows the general arrangement of the pumps inside the building.

Pump Station “B” also includes a duplex, piggyback pumping system. The T6A-B pump station has a total of 50 HP (25 HP per pump) and operates at 850 @ 130-feet (65-feet per stage). The pump station was constructed by Willow Construction for $200,000 in 2003. The construction cost does not include the developer-purchased pumping equipment. This shows a profile of the building and wet well.

Pump Station “C” includes a duplex T4A-B pumping system with a total of 15 HP. Because the pump station is located along a golf course cart path between two golf holes, the pump building includes architectural features like Hardi-plank siding and stone finishes. The pump station was constructed by Strack for $348,000 in 2005.

The pump station will ultimately be a triplex station with the installation of one additional 130-HP pump. GA Industries Checktronics Check Valves have been installed to reduce pump shutdown surges. A 275 kW standby generator provides continuous operation during power failures. The 12-foot diameter wet well provides substantial storage for the ultimate flow requirement.

A retaining wall was required to be constructed around the pump station in order to raise the equipment above the 100-year flood elevation. The PS did not have any issues during the September, 2009 flooding in the Atlanta area. Due to the sensitive location, the building, generator and jib crane were painted brown to blend in with the surrounding area.

Construction of the Samples Road Pump Station was completed September of 2009 with a contract amount of $942,000.

Hall County Spout Springs Water Reclamation Facility

The 0.750 MGD Spout Springs Water Reclamation Facility, completed May of 2004 by PF Moon and Company, was built to serve John Wieland Homes and Neighborhood’s Reunion Development as well as Newland Communities’ Sterling on the Lake Development. Hall County purchased the facility in December of 2007 to serve the southern portion of their service area.

The facility includes SBR aeration equipment and filtration equipment manufactured by Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. The Headworks includes a spiral screening unit manufactured by Parkson. Construction photos along with unit process descriptions..

The facility currently has a permit to expand capacity to 1.0 MGD. The expansion would only require the construction of two additional tanks (one SBR and one digestion) to the existing six tanks for a total of five SBR tanks and three digestion tanks.

The facility includes a 100-Acre land application system to dispose of treated effluent. Reuse force mains have been constructed to beneficially reuse water at both the Reunion Development and the Sterling on the Lake Development.

CEC also designed the influent pump station that serves the Reunion Development and pumps to the Spout Springs facility. The pump station is a duplex station that includes two 130 HP Flygt pumps operating at approximately 1,600 gpm at 216-feet TDH. A 250 kW standby power generator provides continuous operation during power outages.
